Jane Bryant Quinn, a contributing editor at Newsweek, was recently on a NPR’s Talk of the Nation restating her opinion that people should consider bankruptcy to get out of debt in 2009.
Quinn said that after a previous appearance on an NPR program, during which she berated a caller about responsibility and their moral obligation to pay their debt, she wrote her article that was published in January calling for people to resolve to go bankrupt in 2009.
She encouraged people to file sooner rather than later. Save your home equity and retirement plans for your family’s future. We here at Berry and Associates couldn’t agree more.
Gail Cunningham, vice president of communications for the National Foundation for Credit Counseling, on the same show said that bankruptcy should be the last resort, after all other options are exhausted.
We understand her postion, but by the time most people realize they are in over thier heads, it is usually too late to create a plan that will get them out of debt.
